Newsletter April 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

The school had a lot of work done over the Easter holidays but it was mostly very dull remedial plumbing and pipe lagging work. Much more exciting is what we have lined up for the summer, which is the replacement of the play equipment on the school field. The school council were given a budget and developed a design brief, 3 companies provided designs and quotes and the chosen layout is pictured here and will hopefully be all ready to use when the children return in September.

Sports Updates

Our KS1 gymnastics team won silver medals, the year 3 and 4 A-team also won silver medals (with the B-team finishing 4th) and the year 5 and 6 team won bronze medals.

In the Waltham Forest cross country on Saturday both our girls’ and boys’ A-teams won the silver medals in the team prizes and Reece in Year 6 won the overall silver medal.

Finally, the year 3 and 4 tennis team finished as runners-up in the Waltham Forest tennis competition; a great effort in our first time entering.

Congratulations to all those pupils who took part. For all of these events the children have been voluntarily giving up their break times and lunchtimes to practise and this commitment and the team spirit they have demonstrated have been a credit to themselves and the school.

Sponsored events

KS1 and Early Years pupils all took part in the annual sponsored bounce on Friday in aid of the PTA whilst KS2 pupils have been taken part in a sponsored spellathon in aid of the NSPCC. Please send any money raised into the school as soon as possible please so that we can pass it on.

Royal Wedding Picnic

To mark the forthcoming Royal Wedding, Waltham Forest catering have created a special menu. We are going to go with the picnic box option so I thought it would be nice if on the Friday 18th May, weather permitting, if children could bring in picnic blankets, then everyone can have a giant lunchtime picnic on the school field. It might also be nice if after school, parents could join their children and stay for another picnic on the field. It is the last day of the national assessment test week so it will be nice for those pupils (and staff) to finally relax… I may even see if we can arrange an ice cream van to join us!

On that theme, with the nicer weather recently we saw the usual upsurge in people staying behind to play on the field. We are happy for this to happen but a polite reminder that parents are responsible for their child’s behaviour after school and we do expect the same high standard of positive behaviour whilst on the school grounds.
